Wren - Take Flight & Write! A beautiful and infinitely refillable writing pen, equipped with a Japanese-made writing tip.
From Tom's Studio: "Each year, an estimated 9 billion pens are thrown away, contributing to growing environmental waste. Many writing tools are designed with convenience in mind, often leading to a cycle of frequent replacements, which generates significant waste and limits options for those seeking more sustainable, long-lasting choices. As a product designer and craftsman who loves writing, I became frustrated with the waste created by disposable pens. They would pile up in drawers, waiting for a specific refill, or worse, end up in the bin despite being perfectly usable – if only they had ink. After years of designing and handcrafting calligraphy and fountain pens for creatives worldwide, I decided it was time to tackle one of the biggest culprits: the everyday writing pen. The result? The Wren – a pen designed not only to write beautifully but also to last a lifetime, helping to reduce the mountains of waste created by disposable pens."
This pen is awesome, I really love how it glides. It’s easy to fill and to use. I’ve been using it in my illustrations. You don’t need it right away but it is nice to have a couple reservoirs (filter), writing tips, and a jar to store them if you want to switch the ink colour out temporarily but not clean it.
To clean: 1. Clean under streaming water until the filter looks white, no ink. 2. Squeeze dry for the reservoir, and tip. This method will get you re-inking after 15 mins. If you let it air dry, it’s an hour or two. Make sure the reservoir tips, and the actual pen tip, are dry. 3. Re-ink. If the ink isn’t traveling, the reservoir is too wet still.
I’ve used the ink that it came with and I think it’s called Tom’s Studio Midnight. I currently have it inked with Diamine’s Sepia.
