OPEN Acrylics are a slow-drying paint with a slightly softer consistency than our Heavy Body paints. The increased working time of these colours expands their range to include more traditional techniques once only possible with oils. Thick applications can dry extremely slowly, so we recommend artists only use OPEN Colors thinly (< 1 mm). Drying time can also be accelerated by mixing OPEN with faster-drying acrylics like our Fluid and Heavy Body colors. The slow-drying capability of OPEN Acrylics also makes the suitable for some printmaking techniques.

Because OPEN Acrylics dry slowly, painters who cover their palettes or use sealed containers have been able to use the same colors for weeks, reducing the amount of paint wasted and preserving colour mixtures for future use.

OPEN Acrylics are colors for professional artists designed with a unique set of working properties that represent a true departure from other acrylics on the market and expand the range of techniques that are available to artists. Colors are formulated with an optimum balance of pigment load and 100% acrylic polymer dispersion to produce a paint with a uniquely relaxed set of working characteristics and a versatility that allows artists to explore a wider range of techniques such as portraiture and landscape painting that rely on softening, shading, glazing, and creating fine detail.

OPEN Acrylics remain wet on the palette for prolonged periods without skinning over and can be blended with most Acrylic Paints, Mediums and Gels, with the open time of the resulting mixtures being proportionately reduced.

The colours in this set include some of Golden's cleanest organic pigments, capable of producing bright mixes and are least likely to muddy or gray.

Set #044 includes Six x 22 ml OPEN Acrylic Tubes:

  • Hansa Yellow Opaque #7191: As the name suggests, this Hansa Yellow offers greater coverage and opacity. It is a synthetic single pigment paint with good opacity and lightfastness. Semi-opaque opacitywith excellent permanency.
  • Pyrrole Red #7277: The pigment in our Pyrrole Red, PR254, is also used in automotive finishes because it is exceptionally lightfast, and a very clean, bright red.
  • Quinacridone Magenta #7305: A transparent "quin," this single pigment color is a terrific start for brilliant reds and pinks as well as fiery glazes that are exactly what one associates with magenta.
  • Phthalo Blue (Green Shade) #7255: The greenish variation on this very powerful tinting versatile blue. When used thickly it is dark and opaque, but phthalo extends beautifully for glazes.
  • Phthalo Green (Blue Shade) #7270: Phthalocyanine is among the strongest tinting pigments available, while semi-opaque in masstone or full strength, it makes very transparent glazes.
  • Titanium White #7380: Our most opaque white, made with Titanium Dioxide, this is an essential white for most painters.
